ART DIRECTOR

Pyjama Films has an exciting opportunity for an experienced ART DIRECTOR to join the crew of Belzebubs (13 x 22 min), a hearty adult animated comedy about a family of black metal cultists. The series is based on the popular webcomic of the same name by Finnish artist JP Ahonen. The project is an international co-production between three European countries.

ART DIRECTOR IN BRIEF

• Location: on site in Turku, Finland (working remotely for the first 1-2 months possible)

• Type: Fixed-term (12 months), full time 

• Start date: January 2024, negotiable

ART DIRECTOR DUTIES

• Work with the Series Director and the Comic’s creator to further develop the visual look of the series based on pre-existing designs and the original comic, ensuring that the quality of the series stays high while keeping in mind the budgetary and schedule limitations

• Act as the head and supervisor of the design team

• Ensure that the style of new designs stays consistent and in line with the pre-existing designs and the spirit of the original comic

• Prepare design briefs for the design team with the Series Director and ensure that the team performs according to quotas and quality expectations

• Establish new design processes for the studio as needed (e.g. file structures, templates, etc.)

• Maintaining the series’ Main Design Pack together with the Design Coordinator

• Ensure good communication and organization among the design team

• Act as a point of contact for the co-production studios when necessary

• Be proactive about challenges to design work and deliveries

• Ensure that the demands of the creative team are realistic and in line with schedule & budget

AM I RIGHT FOR THE ROLE?

• Your previous experience in a senior artist role (e.g. Art Director, Design Supervisor, Production Designer, or similar) has allowed you to improve your leadership skills and gain an in-depth understanding of 2D cut-out animation productions and the Toon Boom Harmony pipeline

• Your design portfolio displays solid experience with 2D animation design, strong draftsmanship and an ability to analyse and adapt to a variety of visual style

• You enjoy leading a team and know how to provide clear and respectful feedback

• You bring a friendly and constructive approach to communication but know how to be assertive when needed

• You speak and write English fluently
