CHARACTER DESIGNER

Pyjama Films is looking for CHARACTER DESIGNERS to join the crew of Belzebubs (13 x 22 min), a hearty adult animated comedy about a family of black metal cultists. The series is based on the popular webcomic of the same name by Finnish artist JP Ahonen. The project is an international co-production between three European countries.

CHARACTER DESIGNER IN BRIEF

• Location: on site in Turku, Finland (working remotely for the first 1-2 months possible)

• Type: Contract, full time (6-12 months)

• Start date: February 2024, negotiable

CHARACTER DESIGNER DUTIES

• Work with the design team, the Art Director and the Series Director to create the episodic character design packs and special poses for the series

• Visually explore ideas to show the characters’ look, feel and personality while keeping in line with the established visual style 

• Resolve design issues based on your knowledge of the Toon Boom Harmony rigged pipeline

• Plan your own work to ensure timely deliveries and good quality of designs

• Ensure that the style of new designs stays consistent and in line with the pre-existing designs and the spirit of the original comic

• Ensure consistency in file organization and structure for a smooth workflow between the production teams

• Be proactive about challenges to your design work and deliveries and effectively communicate any problems to your supervisors

AM I RIGHT FOR THE ROLE?

• Your previous experience in designing for 2D animation productions has given you a solid understanding of the Toon Boom Harmony pipeline and the character design needs of cut-out animation

• You have experience of using Adobe Photoshop in a professional capacity

• Your character design portfolio shows a great understanding of anatomy, gesture gesture and movement, and contains examples of the most common character design documents, such as turnarounds, expression/gesture sheets, special poses and hand & mouth charts

• Being a good member of a team means you can accept and process feedback and are not afraid to speak out if something is unclear to you; in addition, you know how to communicate your ideas and concepts to others clearly

• Your strong artistic skill allows you to fluently adapt to different artistic styles

• You bring a friendly and constructive approach to communication and ask questions when necessary

• You speak and write English fluently
